Companies — What They Are & How to Manage Them
Overview
In Vantage, a Company (also called a "Client" internally) represents a distinct business entity within your organization. Companies are the primary way to separate and organize users, data, and dashboards. Every user belongs to exactly one company.
What Is a Company?
A Company is the core organizational unit in Vantage. When you first sign up, a company is automatically created using the Company Name you provided during registration.
Think of a Company as your team workspace. It contains:
- Users — People who belong to this company
- Dashboards — Data visualizations and tiles owned by the company
- Integrations — Connected third-party services (Google Drive, Slack, etc.)
- AI Context — Company-specific context that personalizes AI responses
- Billing — Token usage and subscription tied to this company
Why Companies Exist
Companies provide data isolation. Users in Company A cannot see dashboards or data belonging to Company B — unless they are part of the same Organization and cross-company sharing is enabled.
Accessing Companies
- Navigate to Settings from the sidebar.
- In the left navigation panel, under the Organization section, click "Companies".
Viewing Companies
The Companies page shows a list of all companies in your organization (if you belong to one) or just your own company. For each company, you'll see:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Company Name | The display name of the company |
| User Count | How many users belong to this company |
| Plan | The subscription plan this company is on |
When to Create Additional Companies
You should create a new company when:
- You have separate business units — e.g., "Marketing Team" and "Sales Team" that need their own dashboards and data.
- You're an agency managing clients — Each client gets their own company with isolated data and dashboards.
- You need data isolation — Teams that should not see each other's data should be in separate companies.
- You want separate billing — Each company can manage its own token usage and billing.
When NOT to Create a Company
- If users need to see the same dashboards — keep them in the same company.
- If you just want to organize users by department — use Roles & Permissions instead.
How Companies Interact with Organizations
Companies can exist independently or as part of an Organization. See the Organizations guide for details on how this hierarchy works.
| Structure | Description |
|---|---|
| Standalone Company | A single company with its own users. No cross-company sharing. |
| Company within an Organization | Multiple companies grouped under one organization. Cross-company dashboard sharing is possible when enabled by the organization admin. |
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Can't see the Companies tab | You may not have the required permissions. Contact your admin. |
| Need to rename a company | Contact support — company names may need to be updated at the database level. |
| User assigned to wrong company | Edit the user in Settings → Users and change their company assignment. |
